Happy Fall - Ya'll

Pumpkins
Are these not the cutest? I think so and I made them this weekend. So simple, too. I used letter stickers which can be found in scrapbook sections of craft stores and black tissue paper for the polka dots. The dots were glued with Mod Podge. Then the entire pumpkin (real pumpkins were used) was coated with Mod Podge. Once dried, I added the ribbon. These were so cute and so easy, I made one for my desk at school with my name on it and one with the school name on it for the main office.

Speaking of fall.... this is a terrific way to spend a fall afternoon with one's husband and son:
Shealys BBQ
a BBQ lunch,

State Fair3 State Fair5 Produce State Fair6 an afternoon at the state fair, and

Dad Son USC Football USC Stadium USC spirit USC spirit2 View from the Top an evening of football at the University of South Carolina, even if we were not winners.

Dana and Tipper

Dana (Old Red Barn Co.)and Tipper (Blind Pig and The Acorn) are two of the many ladies whose blogs I enjoy reading. Both ladies live in one of my favorite places - the mountains, love their heritage and both are very talented women. Well, yesterday morning as is my usual routine, I am reading my local newspaper before getting ready for school. I flip to the middle of the 1st section, and what do I see??? An article on the energy crisis. Since conservation of our precious resources is important to me, I decide to glance at this article. Before I knew it, I realized I was reading an article that featured Dana. Yes, Dana of Old Red Barn. The Dana who periodically and graciously gives away beautiful quilts like this one back in July. I am impressed.

Then tonight I am reading the latest entry on Tipper's blog and listening to the beautiful music of her brother and her Pap. (There isn't any sound sweeter than the sound of good ole mountain music.) After the song, I scroll down the page. Low and behold, it turns out I won a prize - a crocheted Halloween spider and spider web hand crocheted by her granny. If you are jealous, you can visit her Etsy Shop. She has some extra spider/spider webs you could purchase. I know she would appreciate your business.
As I have said so many times, there are some wonderful ladies in this world wide thing called blogger cyberspace.

Looking forward to next week. My favorite son is coming home. Did I mentioned he is my only son? In fact, my only child. Oh, and did I mention I am the proud mother of a doctor? He is in his third year of residency in Philadelphia.
Dr Stewart
That is him on the left. Isn't he a cute fellow? A sweetie pie, too.
His mom and dad don't see him often. He was 1 1/2 more years as a resident. My prayer is that God will lead him to the southeast. Close enough to be able to visit him on a weekend without having to take an airplane

Update and news flash.....I am actually knitting again. it has taken awhile but I am back in the groove. I'll show you what I am working on later.

Welcomed Sight...Ahhhh!

Driving home yesterday, my eyes gazed upon a welcomed sight -

Our town experienced a gas shortage like so many in the south. I don't think it was as bad as some places like Atlanta and Charlotte. We never had long lines of cars waiting for gas nor people having to wait extended periods of time. Many of our stations were out of the higher grade gas but still had regular gas and a few stations actually sold completely out of all gas by the end of the week. This reminded me of a time in the 70's when I was in college and became stranded in Charleston due to no gas. I had gone home with a roommate to visit her parents. It extended our weekend visit by a few days. Needless to say, my parents were not too happy I had left school knowing there was a shortage of gas and then missing classes.

The warmth of fall colors is beginning to spread. On a short trip to Greenville yesterday, these are some of the sites that brought joy to my heart:
Changing Colors
Leaves changing colors
Sweet Taters
New crop of sweet potatoes (bought a bushel----love them taters!)
Hay Field
Fresh cut hay
Apple Pie3
Finally, a result of our short trip....homemade apple pie with mountain apples - yum!
